Leave it to me to take a perfectly healthy breakfast cereal and completely trash it up! You guys, this granola! Ohmygah! This Triple Chocolate Nutella Granola is off-the-charts delicious! Chewy rolled oats combine with an indulgent combination of heavenly Nutella, sweet maple syrup, crisp coconut flakes, rich cocoa, crunchy hazelnuts, and more! It is baked, cooled, and tossed with chunks of dark chocolate! This recipe is for the serious chocolate lover only!
I’m curious!
How do you enjoy your granola? In a bowl with milk? In a parfait? By the handful? Sprinkled over ice cream?
You are bound to enjoy this recipe, even more when you find out how fantastically easy it is to make! With minimal effort, you will find yourself making batch after batch! Grocery store granola isn’t exactly inexpensive! And, if I can be honest, I find a lot of store-bought granola to be lackluster in flavor! This recipe will not disappoint you, I promise!! I have made plenty of batches to say that confidently!
Here’s what you’ll need to make Triple Chocolate Nutella Granola!
- Rolled oats~ Use regular rolled oats, not quick-cooking!
- Cocoa Powder~ I use Hershey’s Cocoa {not because I’m being paid to say that. I always have it on hand!}
- Pure Maple Syrup
- Coconut Oil or Vegetable Oil~ I’ve made the recipe with each. The coconut oil adds a hint of coconut flavor; the granola will be a little bit matte looking. The vegetable oil adds a bit of a gloss to the finished granola. The choice is yours. Either is delicious!
- Nutella
- Pure Vanilla Extract
- Unsweetened Coconut Chips
- Hazelnuts
- Dark Chocolate Chunks~I picked up a bag of these Bouchard Dark Chocolates at Costco this past weekend. I like the ridges on the chocolate; they are gorgeous to photograph! I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious they are! They melt in your mouth with no waxiness, and the chocolate flavor is amazing! I just broke the bars up into pieces and sprinkled them into the finished granola. I provided a link to purchase them through Amazon, but if you have a Costco membership, I recommend purchasing them there if you are interested! The price is more than half off! I paid less than $11.00 for the 2-pound bag!
- Salt
This really is super simple to make! Combine the oats, cocoa, salt, hazelnuts, and coconut chips in a large bowl. In a medium saucepan, warm the maple syrup, Nutella, and your choice of oil over medium heat. I warm the mixture while stirring to make it as fluid as possible to combine it with the oat mixture. While warming it, it will not become smooth and liquidy! It is ready to remove from the heat when the oils start to separate from the Nutella, and it looks super glossy. When you add it to the oats, don’t bother trying to combine this with a spatula! Wash your hands, and dig in! Squish and squeeze the mixture until it is completely coated with the Nutella! Be sure the Nutella mixture is cool enough to do this! I don’t want you to burn yourself! Bake it for 35-45 minutes on a parchment-lined cookie tray, and you’re done! Let it cool, and add the dark chocolate chunks! Grab a spoon and dig in!!

Description
Triple Chocolate Nutella Granola! For the serious chocolate lover only! Nutella, cocoa powder and chunks of dark chocolate make this granola the most decadent homemade cereal you have ever tasted! It’s also a delicious DIY food gift!
Ingredients
3 cups regular rolled oats
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
2 Tablespoons natural cocoa { I use Hershey’s}
1 cup unsweetened coconut chips
1/2 cup hazelnuts
1/3 cup pure maple syrup
3 Tablespoons melted coconut oil or vegetable oil
3/4 cup Nutella
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup dark chocolate chunks
Instructions
- Line a large cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Preheat the oven to 300°.
- In a large bowl, combine the oats, salt, cocoa, coconut, and hazelnuts.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the Nutella, oil, and maple syrup.
- Stirring constantly, warm the mixture until the oil separates from the Nutella and the mixture becomes glossy. The mixture never fully melts! Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the Nutella mixture over the oats.
- Using clean hands, squish, and squeeze to combine the ingredients. Messy but fun!
- Dump the oats onto the lined cookie sheet—Bake for 35-45 minutes. Stir every 15 minutes to ensure the granola dries evenly.
- When the granola feels dry and a touch crispy, it’s ready!
- Cool completely on a wire rack. Add the chocolate chunks and enjoy!
- Store the granola in a large glass jar for up to 3 weeks.
Notes
- With the holidays coming, keep this recipe in mind if you are into giving homemade food gifts like I do!
- If you prefer milk or white chocolate, use those styles of chips instead of the dark!
- Keep the hazelnuts whole or if you prefer, coarsely chop them!

This stuff is crazy good. You know it’s good when I choose this over candy bars. Great Job 😊
